Getting to know the area
There are a few films that we love because of their portrayal of France. I can't claim they were all made in our immediate vicinity, unfortunately, but they all feature the French countryside that we all love.

Jean de Florette / Manon des Sources
Jean de Florette especially, but also Manon des Sources (the sequel to Jean de Florette, although the first part alone is a complete story) are the ultimate portrait of France, French rural people and French countryside. Perhaps it's in part because of this film that I now live in France. I love the film and so will you. I recommend it to everyone unreservedly.
Charlotte Gray
Could have been too sentimental but isn't, this is a story of a woman who enters France during the second world war, partly to aid the resistance and partly to find a missing husband. Plenty of French countryside and villages to provide a backdrop to the story.
The Chorus (Les Choristes)
A recent prize winning film about a school teacher arriving at a new school and helping the children by teaching them singing. Doesn't sound too promising? Trust me.
